ONCE LEAVES YOU WANTING FOR TWICEA simple story about a guy and a girl who have an intimate threesome with the third party being music. ONCE seems more like a documentary about a street musician who wants to make it big when this girl wanders into his world and ignites a fire under him to help him achieve his goals. Much like ACROSS THE UNIVERSE the musical interludes throughout the film augment to the story rather than interfere. The characters in this film are musicians at heart as so for the actors. Marketa Irglova plays the girl who has a true sweet voice and since she has never acted, it comes off naturally and effortless. Glen Hansard is the guy who also does not have experience in acting. He is authentic and real and you feel his broken heart bleeding over the strings. This story is much like the COMMITMENTS meets with a dramatic MUSIC AND LYRICS, but ever so unconventional. It isn't a movie about when boy meets girl and they fall in love and all that... it is the story of two people connecting in a world where they can express their pain and happiness and sorrow and love. This is a sweet and honest film about the love and respect two people share between themselves and music.
